My
name. Seems like a simple question but it’s not. I was Devil. Leader of The
Retrievers. We were soldiers that went in knowing the risks and facing the
enemy to save lives. I thought the worst that could happen was I joined the big
guy up in heaven. Instead, I lost my leg. Gone. I was a stump of a man with
even less use to the world. I pulled away from everyone, forcing myself into a
lonely, depressed existence until he came looking for me. Gabe was under my
command. He had his own horrible memories to deal with. He was looking for help
but what could I possible do for him, when I couldn’t even help myself.
Sometimes
when hope is at its lowest, an angel walks in. Sure, my angel Gabe cursed like
a sailor in his Irish lit and flirted like a tavern whore but he was still
mine. Maybe, just maybe, together we could find our happiness.
A brief excerpt of
Scars:
Gabe
sighed. “I...I finally came to terms with it.”
“With
what?”
“I’m
gay, Devil. I’ve been fighting it for years but I can’t even get it up for a
naked woman anymore.”
Okay,
that was a twist I didn’t see coming.
“And...I
want you. I have from the moment we met but I could never accept wanting you
and then when you were injured...you pushed me away. I thought maybe you
weren’t interested but I had to come up here and find out.”
That
was too much to process at once. I stared at him, my eyes wide and my mouth
hanging open.
“Say
something.” He shifted to the edge of the couch.
“I’m
not sure what.” I blew out a harsh breath and rubbed a hand over my face. “Gabe
I’m...broken.” I pointed to my chair.
“You’re
not a fooking toy, Devil. I know you’ve lost a limb but you’re still the same
badass that braved a court marshal and savage natives to rescue me. You took
bullets for me. You kept me optimistic when shit hit the fan.”
