On Christmas Eve, we leave Santa a beer and trash mix, and we spread reindeer food so the reindeer have a snack as well.

Somehow, one Christmas Eve a few years back, we ran out of milk. You and I were trying to figure out how to dig ourselves out of this hole. How could we run out of milk on the biggest night of the year? We were sweating bullets, when suddenly the best suggestion to ever come out of one of our kids mouths was spoken.

“Why don’t we just leave him a beer?” Sybany said. “Santa’s a man like Daddy and Paw Paw and Grandpa and Pappy, and they drink beer, not milk.”

“That’s a great idea, Bunny,” you said, and I had to agree, especially since I was the one who had to drink the milk. “But I don’t think cookies go with beer, so what do you think we should leave him to snack on with his beer?”

There were a few suggestions thrown around, from chips to pigs in a blanket, before it was decided that trash mix should accompany the beer. Trash mix is a snack mix I make every Christmas. It has popcorn, pretzels, Chex cereal, nuts—pretty much anything that I can think of. Everything gets mixed with my secret sauce and baked. It has become a family favorite at the holidays.

Then the kids decided that the reindeer must be hungry, too, so we needed to leave food for them. The only thing I had was deer feed, and we sprinkled that out in the back yard. So, fair warning, watch where you step outside in the morning.

Author Bio
One day some words came to mind, so I wrote them down. Soon the words became sentences, which formed paragraphs, which, in turn, formed chapters. Before long, those words had become a book.
When I'm not reading or writing, I'm a wife, mother, and business owner. I've lived on the Gulf, East, and West Coasts, but as a born and raised Southern girl, my favorite will always be the Gulf Coast. There's just no place like home...
