Book Three in the Fate for Love Series

Colton Kingston is set on rebuilding his ranch to what it once was before his livelihood was diminished to a pile of ashes from a revengeful dark act of arson. His brothers at heart are there with him every step of the way to help pick up the pieces of the old and replace them with the new.

Paige Summers finds her inner strength to battle through her burdens of taking another person’s life. Standing in her rightful place by Colton’s side, she’s finally holding her own and living her dream of training horses.

Together, Colton and Paige have endured their fair share of obstacles and tragedies, and it has only made them stronger. With Hank Ulrich out of their lives, Colton is determined to make Paige, the girl he’s loved since he was five years old, his wife—forever.

But as one door closes, another opens, and a new danger is lurking in the shadows, threatening to stand in their way.

Will Colton and Paige’s love be endless, the way it was always meant to be? Or will a new devastation fall upon them and ruin their fate?

Paige POV

When I pivoted to head up toward the house, Colton was standing in front of the water spigot with the hose in his hand, spinning it, with a devilish look in his baby-blue eyes.
I came to an abrupt halt. With only twenty feet between us, I gazed at him and apprehensively asked, “What are you doing?”
“I told you that you might want to wear your swimsuit today. You should have taken my advice.” He advanced a step, and I retreated one, causing him to pause. “It’s a hundred-foot hose, baby. And you know I’ll catch you before you can make it to the house, so it’s best to come quietly.”
I wasn’t going to make it easy on him. I rapidly sidestepped to the right, and he followed, so I backed up.
“I doubt it.” I lifted my chin in the air and kept my face impassive. “I can be quick on my feet.”
He shot me a dubious look and said, “Paige, in our twelve years of school before college, you avoided gym class like the plague, so you don’t fool me, sweet girl.”
I narrowed my eyes at the arrogant ass. Now, I definitely wasn’t going to surrender to him. “You wouldn’t,” I seethed in good humor.
His expression was full of challenge. “Baby”—he stepped forward—“we both know I will catch you.
A hundred-foot hose had me at a serious disadvantage. I had only one shot, so without another word, I whipped around on my heels and ran for the backyard, straight toward the pear trees. My only catch was hoping that I could weave between them, and he’d run out of hose.
Cold water hit my back as soon as I ducked under the first tree. It was a shock to my system and definitely way colder than I remembered as a kid.
“Colton!” I cried as I darted to the left in between another row of trees. I was hoping to shield myself with the leaves, but I had no such luck.
“You can’t outrun me, baby,” he said, right on my tail.
I bobbed to the right, refusing to slow down. The lower branches skimmed my shoulders as I continued to weave from side to side. The air came and went from my lungs with deeper pants.
Damn, I am so out of shape. When did that happen?
I pushed forward, but my short legs weren’t quick enough. In no time, Colton’s arm banded around my waist, and we were falling to the ground. A yelp of shock tore from my lungs as our feet tangled with the hose. Colton managed to break my fall with his hands. I landed flat on my back with his knees on either side of me, bracing his weight.
“Cold! Cold! Cold!” I squealed. I squirmed beneath him as the tip of the hose soaked my stomach.
“Stay still.” Colton laughed. He stretched one hand between us and grabbed the hose in an attempt to wiggle it free.
With no luck, he quickly flipped himself over and tried to pull it off of us. It was still wrapped around both of our legs, so he rolled us again. I felt dizzy.
“There.” He laughed and flung the hose off to the side.
It was too late. I was soaked—my clothes, my face, my hair. All of me was drenched in cold water. I peered up at Colton. His hair was wet, sticking to his forehead. Water was dripping down his face, from his cheeks to his full lips, making his skin glow in the light. Those baby-blue eyes of his were beaming down at me with such love, making the drumming of my heart erratically speed up.
My hands came to either side of his face and caressed his cheeks, feeling his stubble beneath my palms. He was so handsome that it made my chest ache.
“You’re in big trouble, mister,” I stated breathlessly, fighting to keep my voice stern. “Big, big trouble,” I emphasized each word.
He unleashed a boyish grin at me. “Nah, you still love me.”
“Not today,” I lied, resisting his charms.
He leaned in, brushed his mouth along mine, and alternated between placing short tender kisses and gentle nips along my lower lip. It was difficult to remember why I was mad at him when he was touching me.
I held my breath.
He whispered, “Surely, a little water couldn’t diminish your love for me.”
Cold water,” I corrected him.
He glided his hand over my soaked jeans, up the length of my sternum, and across to my breast to my taut nipple. I exhaled sharply when he tweaked it in between his thumb and forefinger.
“Okay, maybe it was a little chilly,” he surrendered. “Don’t worry. I have just the cure to warm you up.”
Butterflies took flight in my belly, yet I couldn’t deny my urge to challenge him. I slid my hands into his hair and pulled him closer. “I don’t believe you. I think you’re going to have to prove me wrong.”
“I’m all too willing to oblige, sweet girl,” Colton said.
And boy, did he ever.
